Destrier, 23 May – now not an SCA event

February 27, 2010 at 1:14 am 1 comment

The day after the “Taste of the Middle Ages” feast, we will hold our “Destrier” event at Cockatrice Farm.

Around the world, many SCA kingdoms have thriving horse-related activities, eg Calontir and the Middle Kingdom.

In our Kingdom, Lochac, not much is happening.  There’s a bit in New Zealand, but virtually nothing in Australia.  The Kingdom equestrian website is here.

Goulburn is a great location for equestrian things, as we’re surrounded by seven other SCA groups and we’re within range of another three.  Our concept for “Destrier” is that we will do a little bit of equestrian activities this year, and build the event annually from there.  So this particular event won’t be enormous or sophisticated, but it will lay the foundation for bigger things in future.  More on this later.  If you can help get us started, so much the better.

Some more good equestrian resources are here and here.

Update: unfortunately SCA Australia has not managed to get equestrian insurance in place yet, so this will not be proceeding as an SCA event.  Some of the Okewaite people will still be holding a private equestrian training session at Cockatrice Farm, to which visitors are welcome.

Update 2: there are some photos of the training day on the Cockatrice Farm website.

What he didn’t say is that some people are buying horses for the event and others are just making “curtains” for their horses. Lots of practice and excitement about the coming event.
